Quotes of the Day

Hi everyone! I would like to share some interesting quotes that will hopefully lighten your mood!

"Astronomy compels the soul to look upwards and leads us from this world to another." --Plato.

"I don't feel like a giant. I feel very, very, small." --Neil Armstrong, when looking back to Earth from the Moon.

"Ye stars! which are the poetry of heaven." -- Lord Byron, LXXXVIII, Canto III.

"s m a i s m r m i l m e p o e t a l e u m i b u n e n u g t t a u i r a s" -- Galileo Galilei.
This is an anagram that was sent to other scientists as a way to claim his latest discovery without revealing it. He later revealed its meaning in regards to Saturn, "Altissimum planetam tergeminum observavi," I have observed the most distant planet to have a triple form. Learn more at this link

"Man must rise about the Earth -to the top of the atmosphere and beyond- for only thus will he fully understand the world in which he lives."--Socrates

"I was born on January 8th, 1942, exactly three hundred years after the death of Galileo. I estimate, however, that about two hundred thousand other babies were also born that day. I don't whether any of them was later interested in astronomy." -Stephen Hawking, commenting on the small amount of astronomy lovers.

It is frustrating that a few people actually understand and respect my passion for astronomy. Through this blog, I would like to inspire more people and engender more love in astronomy.

  1. I like the comments you have chosen, that although these topics are related to astronomy, they have a relevance to our lives. Particularly, the Neil Armstrong quote.
